Egypt and Lebanon signed a new agreement aimed at strengthening cooperation in the natural gas sector, with a focus on rehabilitating and upgrading Lebanon’s gas infrastructure, officials said on Wednesday.

The deal was signed following a meeting between Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and Lebanon’s Minister of Energy and Water Joseph Saddi at the Egyptian Cabinet headquarters, in the presence of senior officials from both countries’ energy sectors.

The agreement outlines plans to implement repair and rehabilitation works on Lebanon’s gas pipelines, as part of broader efforts to enhance the country’s energy infrastructure and improve supply reliability.

Badawi emphasized Egypt’s commitment to sharing its technical expertise, particularly in the operation and maintenance of gas networks. He noted that the agreement reflects Egypt’s strategy to leverage its accumulated experience and advanced capabilities in the energy sector to support regional partners.

The talks also underscored the depth of bilateral ties between Cairo and Beirut, which have gained momentum following the December visit of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to Lebanon, during which several cooperation agreements were signed.

Both sides explored additional opportunities for collaboration in oil and gas exploration, production, and technical training, aiming to strengthen energy security and maximize resource utilization.

Officials said the agreement marks a step toward deeper regional integration in energy, positioning Egypt as a key partner in supporting infrastructure development and capacity building across the Eastern Mediterranean.
