The Ministry of Environment launched on Friday its promotional campaign "Eco Egypt", which aims to promote natural reserves, in addition to raising awareness among citizens of the importance of the environment and ecotourism.

The campaign was launched from the Ras Mohamed Nature Reserve, in cooperation with the Ministries of Tourism, Antiquities and Information as well as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Mainstreaming Biopersity in Egypt’s Tourism (MBDT) with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The event was attended by Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled Al-Anani, Minister of State for Information and Information Osama Heikal, as well as 30 foreign ambassadors to Egypt, and public figures.

Fouad said that the campaign will last for three years, adding that the political leadership pays great attention to natural reserves as it is of great importance. She noted that the government aims to develop natural reserves according to the latest global and international standards.

The minister pointed out that the government is keen on developing these reserves, as well as preserving biopersity in Egypt, which will enhance the capabilities of the national economy to attract more investments to the ecotourism sector.

On his part, Heikal said that the campaign reflects the great coordination between the various ministries, indicating that the ministry is keen to provide simplified information related to the environment to raise awareness of environmental issues.

Moreover, Al-Anani stressed that cooperation between the concerned ministries would enhance tourism, which is one of the main pillars of the Egyptian economy.

He added that the ministry is working to promote ecotourism with the aim to preserve the environment and integrate local communities.
