At an invitation from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett will arrive in Egyptian Sinai's resort, Sharm El-Sheikh, today, Monday, according to statements by Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

On June 28, Sisi made the first phone call with Bennett on the occasion of assuming his duties, stressing Egypt’s support for all efforts to reach a just and lasting solution between the Palestinians and Israelis.

“During the phone call, Sisi stressed Egypt’s support for all efforts to reach a just and lasting solution between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, in order to achieve a comprehensive peace in the Middle East,” said Rady.

No details of the meeting have been released since Bennett announced last month that he had accepted an invitation to meet Sisi, according to Hebrew reports.

Bennett’s visit will be the first public visit by an Israeli premier since 2011, when former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu met president Hosni Mubarak in Sharm el-Sheikh. Netanyahu also reportedly paid a secret, unofficial visit in 2018, according to the Times of Israel.

This will be the second foreign visit of the Israeli Prime Minister, after his visit to the United States last week, and his meeting with US President Joe Biden.

The visit also comes after a tripartite summit; Palestinian, Egyptian and Jordanian, held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and focused on the Palestinian-Israeli file.

The visit “aims at preparing for the resumption of direct negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis during the coming period.”

The meeting between Sisi and Bennett was announced for the first time, during a recent visit by the Egyptian Director of General Intelligence, Major General Abbas Kamel.
