Egypt has reaffirmed its commitment to securing a ceasefire in Gaza as a crucial step toward implementing a reconstruction plan for the war-torn enclave.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday evening following a weekly cabinet meeting, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasized that regional developments continue to shape the situation amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
He stressed that Egypt is exerting every possible effort to reinstate a ceasefire to revive negotiations and push forward with the reconstruction initiative.
“This reconstruction plan has been endorsed by the Arab League and various international actors. That’s why we are making every effort to restore the ceasefire,” Madbouly stated.
He also revealed that he had recently met with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohamed Mustafa to discuss the challenges and preparations necessary for rebuilding Gaza once the ceasefire is in effect.
In a related development, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday that Egypt and Qatar are coordinating their efforts as mediators to stabilize the ceasefire and implement the three-phase agreement reached on January 19.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty and his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, held a phone call on Wednesday to discuss the mediation efforts.
Both ministers agreed on the importance of securing the release of detainees, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian, medical, and shelter aid to Gaza, and maintaining close coordination with the United States to advance the peace process.
The renewed diplomatic push comes as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, with international calls growing louder for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the swift implementation of reconstruction plans.
