The Egyptian government announced a steep increase in electricity prices for the commercial sector, ranging from 20% to 90%.
The decision is part of a broader strategy to enhance revenue collection efficiency while maintaining stable electricity services and upgrading the national grid to meet rising demand.
The revised commercial electricity rates are as follows:
Tier 1–100 kW: EGP 1.62 per kWh
Tier 101–250 kW: EGP 2.16 per kWh
Tier 251–600 kW: EGP 2.64 per kWh
Tier 601–1000 kW: EGP 2.74 per kWh
Above 1000 kW: EGP 2.79 per kWh
Irrigation sector: EGP 2.65 per kWh
Other commercial subscribers: EGP 2.74 per kWh
This adjustment marks the first commercial electricity price hike since August 2024 and reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to rationalize financial support, optimize energy usage, and close the gap between production costs and selling prices.
Officials emphasize that the increase is designed to ensure sustainable infrastructure development, secure reliable service delivery, and support industrial growth by making energy supply more aligned with actual costs. Analysts predict that while businesses will face higher operational expenses, the move could strengthen state revenue streams and bolster investment capacity across sectors.
