Egypt, Greece, Cyprus FMs to Hold Trilateral Meeting in NY

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti, Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, and Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos will hold a trilateral meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York between September 22, and 29, the Cypriot government announced on Friday.

The three officials will discuss developing the mutual ties between the three countries in light of the trilateral cooperation.

Major issues will be discussed during the meeting including energy, and defence.

The Cypriot government said that the meeting will also creates an opportunity “for discussions and coordination on strategic matters, addressing common challenges and regional issues of mutual concern, such as developments in the region and aspects of EU-Egypt relations."

It added: “This has become a regular meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, offering a chance for better preparation for upcoming official ministerial or high-level trilateral meetings,” the government said, adding that this year’s meeting is expected to help prepare for the 10th Trilateral Summit, set to take place in Egypt."

In the same context, the Egyptian Foreign Minister and his Cypriot counterpart will hold a separate meeting to discuss the latest developments in the region.

“Both countries are strategic partners that have worked closely to build stable relations based on principles of honesty, trust, shared interests and transparency. Efforts are ongoing to further promote and deepen these long-standing ties,” the statement added. 

On Thursday, Abdel Atti and Kombos had a phone call and both agreed to continue developing the mutual ties between both countries including the economic, trade, and energy.

In addition, both asserted their keenness to continue their mutual cooperation to avoid the increasing of any escalations, violence, and instability in the region.

Finally, they agreed on discussing the latest arrangements for the 10 trilateral summit between Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus in Greece.
