Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus Discuss Regional Concerns at UNGA Meeting

Amid the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, a tripartite meeting between Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus was conducted at a ministerial level.

The dialogue included Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, and Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos.

The conference, held on Friday, 22nd September 2023, showcased the dedication of the ministers from the three nations towards strengthening their strategic and close-knit ties, highlighted by Ahmed Abu Zeid, the Spokesperson for Egypt's Foreign Ministry.

Shoukry noted that this collaboration mechanism serves as a central forum to deliberate on various international and regional concerns.

The ministers evaluated the advancement of mutual projects across sectors such as energy, tourism, transportation, and agriculture. Moreover, they highlighted the significance of fostering collaboration within the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF).

Key topics such as the evolving Libyan conflict, the Syrian situation, disturbances in Sudan, and recent events in Palestinian regions were also addressed. Shoukry further provided insights into the ongoing negotiations surrounding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), emphasizing the criticality of a binding agreement for the dam's filling and operation.

Concluding the meeting, the ministers resolved to persist in their collaborative efforts, particularly within regional and international platforms, to ensure the stability of their respective regions.
