Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, met on Tuesday with Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French President’s Personal Envoy to Lebanon.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the preparatory meeting for the International Conference to Support the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces, currently hosted in Cairo.
During the meeting, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's firm position in support of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He emphasized the priority of empowering Lebanese national state institutions to fully assume their responsibilities, foremost among them the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), to ensure the country's stability.
FM praised France's active role, welcoming the upcoming conference to support the Lebanese Army and Security Forces scheduled to be held in Paris on March 5.
He also welcomed efforts to convene a subsequent conference for economic support and reconstruction, affirming Egypt's readiness to provide all necessary means to ensure the success of these initiatives.
In a related context, Abdelatty stressed the need for the international community to adopt a comprehensive approach.
He asserted that stability can only be restored by compelling Israel to immediately cease its aggression, withdraw fully from occupied Lebanese territories, and implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701 without selectivity.
He further warned of the risks posed by continued Israeli escalatory policies on regional security.
The discussions also covered frameworks for political coordination. Both sides agreed on the importance of continued consultation within the Quintet Committee on Lebanon—which includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, France, and the United States—to enhance its role in supporting the restoration of institutional stability in Lebanon.
