Egypt Fights Population Increase with "2 Kifaya"

Egypt suffers from the problem of population increase, which affects its national security. Therefore the Egyptian government is taking several measures to address this problem.

Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Waly stressed that the ministry pays great attention to the issue of population increase, pointing to the seriousness of the issue of the population as a national security issue.

She added that the ministry is carrying out many different programs to address the issue of population increase, including the project "2 Kifaya." As well as the role of NGOs, and the opening of many family planning clinics in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.

Waly pointed out that 17 thousand women go to clinics, and 61% of them use methods to regulate pregnancy. "We are working to raise awareness of the family, and 350,000 home visits have been made in the top ten governorates,” she said, adding that an advertising campaign for the "2 Kifaya" project was also launched through the distribution of a number of publications such as metro stations, streets, and hospitals.

In addition to the production of 60 short episodes entitled Family Minutes broadcast on the Holy Quran radio stations five times a day, also there are 408 awareness seminars every month, which confirms that the issue of population increase occupies a large part in the programs of the Ministry of Social Solidarity.

The minister explained that 20 productions were made under the title Theater Street appeals to women about the danger of population increase and the impact on their health and attended by more than 6,500 people.

Waly said that the role of the Ministry of Youth in educating the population through youth centers and the ministry of Awqaf through awareness in the mosques as well as the partnership of the Coptic Church to achieve development. In addition, the launch of the program Mouda for the rehabilitation of young people to marry as well as a program to raise awareness of the population and its impact on development.
