Egypt-EU Investment Conference to Unlock Egypt's Economic Potential

The Egypt-EU Investment Conference, themed "Unlocking Egypt’s Advantages in a Fast-Changing World," will take place on June 29-30, 2024, at the Al Manara International Conference Center in Cairo. This high-profile event aims to highlight Egypt's strategic reforms and investment opportunities, fostering economic growth and international collaboration.

Day 1: Showcasing Economic Reforms and Investment Climate

The conference will kick off with opening remarks from HE Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and HE Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. The first session, "Showcasing Egypt’s Reform Agenda and Investment Climate," will feature key speakers such as HE Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President of the European Commission, and HE Dr. Hala Elsaid, Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development.

A significant highlight will be the signing of a €1 billion Macro-financial Assistance package, followed by a networking break. A high-level roundtable discussion will focus on the private sector's role in Egypt's IMF and EU MFA programs.

Panel Discussions and Sector-Specific Sessions

The second session, "Transforming Egypt: Strategic Reforms for a Nearshoring Hub," moderated by Dr. Alaa Ezz, Secretary General of the Confederation of Egyptian European Business Associations (CEEBA), will feature speakers like Gert Jan Koopman, Director General of DG Near, and Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI).

The afternoon will be divided into two tracks:

Industrial Hub Potential:

Logistics: Presentations by Walid Gamal El Din, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), and Steven Yoogalingam, Managing Director of the Suez Canal Container Terminal.

Automotive: Insights from HE Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry, and Martina Biene, MD and Chairperson of Volkswagen Africa.

Pharmaceuticals: Discussions led by Dr. Ali ElGhamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, and Andrea Clerici, Director at the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Renewable Energy & Green Hydrogen:

Renewable Energy: Presentations by HE Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and Mohamed Ismail Mansour, CEO of Infinity Group.

Green Hydrogen: Contributions from Ayman Soliman, CEO of The Sovereign Fund of Egypt, and Brian Davis, CEO of C2X, Maersk.

The day will conclude with MoU signings with companies including DEME, EDF, Scatec, FertiGlobe, Heller Elektro-Hausgeräte GmbH, and Volkswagen Africa, followed by a reception and gala dinner.

Day 2: Focus on Sustainability and Future Investments

Day two will begin with opening remarks from HE Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, and HE Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi. The morning sessions will include:

Turbocharging Egypt’s Green and Circular Economies: A panel moderated by Ayman Mostafa Hussein Elzahaby from UNIDO, featuring speakers like HE Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, and Helmut von Struve, CEO for Middle East at Siemens.

Several MoUs will be signed with organizations such as the European Union Delegation (EUD), European Investment Bank (EIB), and Agence Française de Développement (AFD).

Financing and Technological Advancements

The session "Financing the Future: Financial Vehicles to Support Investments in Egypt" will explore various funding mechanisms, featuring speakers such as HE Dr. Rania Al Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, and Gelsomina Vigliotti, Vice-President of the EIB.

The afternoon will focus on technology and entrepreneurship with sessions like:

Leapfrogging with Technology and a Growing Entrepreneurship Ecosystem: Presentations by HE Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and private sector leaders such as Mohamed Mohsen, CEO of Si-Vision LLC.

Food and Water Security for a Resilient Economy: Featuring HE Dr. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Muhammad El Demerdash, CEO of Engazaat.

The conference will conclude with closing remarks from key stakeholders.
