Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh held talks with senior Eritrean officials in Cairo to strengthen economic cooperation and discuss regional developments.
The Egyptian ministers received Eritrean Presidential Economic Adviser Hagos Gebrehiwet and Minister of Trade and Industry Nasreddin Saleh, in a meeting focused on boosting bilateral ties across key sectors.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to its longstanding strategic partnership with Eritrea, stressing the importance of expanding cooperation in trade, investment, industry and development. He also reiterated Egypt’s full support for Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Egyptian foreign minister called for building on recent high-level exchanges and enhancing coordination to increase trade volumes and encourage joint investments. He highlighted Egypt’s readiness to provide technical support and capacity-building in priority sectors, including infrastructure, industry and trade, while promoting greater participation of Egyptian private sector companies in the Eritrean market.
Abdelatty also underscored the need to support Egyptian businesses operating in Eritrea and facilitate the entry of Egyptian exports, noting the role of private sector firms in implementing development projects that align with Eritrea’s national priorities.
For his part, Farid emphasised the importance of deepening economic and investment partnerships, pointing to promising opportunities in the Eritrean market. He stressed the need to strengthen ties between business communities in both countries and boost trade exchange, while leveraging continental frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area to expand market access.
The meeting also addressed regional issues of mutual concern, particularly developments in Sudan, where both sides stressed the importance of preserving the country’s unity and territorial integrity, supporting national institutions, and rejecting the creation of parallel entities.
