On Wednesday, Egypt partook in a ceremony, organized by China, to inaugurate the shipment of the first batch of equipment related to turning Sharm El-Sheikh into a sustainable green city.
The batch is provided by the Chinese Ministry of Environment to the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, in a bid to support Egypt’s efforts to carry out an environmentally friendly technological transformation in order to address the effects of climate change.
Dr. Ali Abu Senna, CEO of the Environmental Affairs Agency said that the grants provided by the Chinese Ministry of Environment to the Egyptian Ministry of Environment aim to address the effects of climate change and enhance the efficiency of energy use in Egypt as one of the basic technological solutions that ensure the use of sustainable and renewable energy resources.
He explained that the Chinese-offered grants include solar street lighting poles, a home solar power generation system, energy-saving bulbs and tubes, and energy-saving air conditioners, which contribute to strengthening our capabilities in combating climate change.
He also added that this equipment will fulfill our international obligations, noting that the ceremony coincides with Egypt's submission of the updated report regarding the nationally specific contributions to the secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Abu Senna stressed that this comes within the framework of Egypt's international commitments and reflects the country's firm intention to face the negative effects of climate change during the period from 2015 to 2030.
