On Tuesday, Egypt sent medical aid supplies to Libya as per the directives of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the Egyptian armed forces announced.

According to the Egyptian army’s statement, two military jets loaded with huge quantities of medical aid supplies, provided by the health ministry to Libya, took off from east Cairo airbase, heading for Sebha International Airport to unload the shipment.

Meanwhile, Libyan officials lauded the Egyptian efforts exerted to support their country, expressing full appreciation and thanks to the Egyptian political leadership for their strenuous efforts to help Libya overcome their problems.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis, Egypt has sent several batches of medical and humanitarian aid to Arab and African countries, including Libya, Yemen, Sudan, Palestine, Lebanon, South Sudan, Zambia and Mali.

Libya has recorded almost 169,504 infections since the outbreak of the pandemic and 2,830 deaths, according to the latest data from the diseases center.

Libya has been torn by pision and violence for a decade since the 2011 NATO-backed uprising against Muammar Qaddafi and split between warring western and eastern factions in 2014.

The current new UN-backed unity government, headed by Abdul-Hamid Al-Dbaiba, took office last month with a mandate to improve services and prepare for a national election in December.
