On Tuesday, Egypt strongly condemned tearing up of a copy of the Holy Quran outside the Dutch Parliament in The Hague by the leader of an extremist movement.

This is a blatant act that goes beyond the limits of freedom of expression, violates the sanctities of Muslims, and fuels hate speech among religions and peoples in a way that poses a threat to the security and stability of societies, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday 24/1/2023.

Egypt also expressed its deep concern over the recurrence of blasphemy incidents and the recent escalation of Islamophobia in a number of European countries, stressing that it is the responsibility of those countries to prevent the repetition of such practices that are inconsistent with the system of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
