The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack by Israeli forces on a UNRWA relief convoy in Gaza on Sunday. The ministry's official spokesperson, Ahmed Abu Zeid, said that the act was another example of Israel's daily violations of international humanitarian law.
The Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, reported that Israeli forces heavily fired at a UN convoy heading to Gaza on Sunday. Although no casualties were recorded, the UNRWA teams had to take cover as their clearly marked UN armored cars were fired upon. One vehicle sustained at least five bullets, causing severe damage and leaving the convoy stranded. Despite the attack, the UNRWA teams managed to reach Gaza.
Lazzarini also revealed that the Israeli authorities had approved the convoy's movement, as is the case for all similar UN movements.
