In response to the novel coronavirus in Egypt, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly discussed with Hala Zayed, the Minister of Health and Population, a number of new measures taken by the ministry including launching new services to help patients.

The Minister of Health presented the position of delivering medicines to patients who are going to receive home treatment of the coronavirus, and whose results are still positive, but their medical condition is stable, with less symptoms, and they do not need at the moment to be hospitalized.

In another regard, the Health Ministry warned of treatment protocols circulated on social media platforms, adding that such unapproved protocols are not credible.

Dr. Khaled Megahed, official spokesperson and media advisor to the Health minister, said that the treatment protocols used to treat the COVID-19 patients were developed by the scientific committee formed upon the decision of the Health Minister Zayed, noting that the committee prepared this treatment protocol counting on the availability of data from all countries of the world since the emergence of the coronavirus, in light of the continuing stage of research on drugs that treat the virus.

On his part, the prime minister praised the experience of providing medicines for cases that will be subject to home treatment of the coronavirus, and thanked all the health workers and officials for implementation of this initiative, which will reduce pressure on hospitals, in the interest of critical care cases, stressing the need for continuous follow-up to home treatment cases.

Moreover, Madbouly lauded the launch of the "Egypt Health" mobile application and the services provided by the Ministry of Health and Population through it, saying that it is an important step to reach all citizens. He stressed that the state aims to achieve the desired goals of its plan in the face of this pandemic.

Egypt confirmed on Thursday 1,127 new coronavirus cases, the highest daily record so far, bringing the total cases to 20,793.

“Twenty-nine more deaths were confirmed; raising the total number to 845,” Megahed said in a statement.

“Up to 5,359 coronavirus patients have recovered so far,” the spokesman said.

“As many as 154 Egyptians were among the recovered patients today,” he added.

Also, the number of coronavirus patients who had now been retested for the virus and had received negative results has reached 6,019 after getting proper treatment in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Megahed revealed that there are governorates which witnessed a decline in the number of daily infection like Port Said, South Sinai, Damietta, and the Red Sea, while Cairo and Giza governorates are the highest.

Earlier, Health Minister Zayed said each isolation hospital will have 20 beds allocated for the doctors in case of their infection with the virus along with providing the hospitals with the needed medical equipment.

“About 94% of the deaths were in the age group of over 50,” Zayed pointed out, adding: “22% of the confirmed cases are in the age group of 50 to 59.”

“100% of the deceased had chronic diseases and tumors,” the minister affirmed.

The ministry has stepped up precautionary measures in the affected governorates and intensified campaigns to spread awareness about infectious diseases.

Megahed stressed that the ministry announced all positive and suspected cases nationwide.

The ministry raises its preparedness at all the country’s ports and airports to monitor the virus developments, receiving inquires from citizens about the virus through its hotline 105 or 15335.
