Egypt strongly denounced the despicable terrorist attack that targeted Iraqi security forces on Friday in the Province of Diyala.

“Egypt offers its deep condolence to Iraq and the families of the victims,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Egypt stressed full solidarity with Iraq against anything that could threaten its security and stability, highlighting its confidence that such horrific attacks will not undermine Iraq’s determination to achieve prosperity and development for its people, according to the statement.

On Friday, Iraqi police announced that at least 11 soldiers, including an officer, were killed in an overnight attack by the Islamic State (IS) terror group in the eastern province of Diyala.

The attack took place after midnight when the militants attacked an army outpost in the Udheim area, some 60 km north of Diyala’s provincial capital Baquba, a senior police official told Xinhua news agency.

A source from the scene stated that the soldiers were surprised by the attack, as the attackers took advantage of the significant drop in temperatures and attacked the military outpost.
