To celebrate World Youth Day 2023, Egypt's Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy participated in a panel session entitled “Mechanisms for Enhancing Youth Participation in Public Affairs”, organized by the Egyptian Youth Council (EYC) in cooperation with the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) on August 12.

The event was attended by NCHR President H.E. Ambassador Moushira Khattab, Mohamed Mamdouh, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Youth Council for Development, and a number of public figures.

The session highlighted the role of young women and men as key partners in the change and reviewed the challenges and problems facing them all over the country.

The theme of this year is "Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World."

In his message on this occasion, UN Chief António Guterres said: “Every year, International Youth Day celebrates the determination, ideas and leadership of young people as we pursue a better world.”

He continued: “Across all of today’s challenges, young people are calling for bold and accelerated action, standing in solidarity with the most vulnerable, and designing solutions to ensure social, economic and climate justice, and peace and prosperity for all. To expand their participation, I recently launched a policy brief calling for governments to make youth participation the norm, rather than the exception, across decisions and policies around the world.”

Guterres also noted that this year’s theme reminds us of the importance of ensuring young people gain and apply skills in the burgeoning green economy.
