Egypt strongly condemned and denounced, on Sunday, the failed assassination attempt against Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi.

"Egypt stressed full solidarity with Iraq against anything that could threaten its security and stability, highlighting its confidence that such horrific attacks will not undermine Iraq’s determination to achieve prosperity and development for its people," the Foreign Ministery said in a statement.

Moreover, Egypt called on all Iraqi parties to exercise restraint and give priority to the national interest in order to preserve the security and stability in the country.

On his part, Al-Kadhimi called for calmness after the attack on his residence in Baghdad’s Green Zone, assuring people that he was unhurt. His office characterized the attack as a “failed assassination attempt.”

Two security sources earlier said in a statement that “a failed assassination attempt against the Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, by a booby-trapped drone, tried to target his residence in the Green Zone in Baghdad.”

It confirmed that the prime minister was not injured and is in good health.
