Egypt to Approve Booster Vaccine Shots for Vulnerable People

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the one who carries upon his shoulders the responsibilities of the Minister of Health, said that the Ministry approved a recommendation of giving people who are at high risk for infection booster vaccine shots, media agencies reported on Wednesday.

Next, Abdel Ghaffar highlighted that there are more than 80 million COVID-19 vaccine doses available in Egypt from different brands, alongside, the locally manufactured vaccine doses.

On the other hand, he added that more than 44 million COVID-19 vaccine doses were given to the residents.

In the same context, the Minister reflected that there are various steps taken to speed up the process of COVID-19 as the vaccination impacted positively in decreasing the number of deaths linked to COVID-19, such as installing vaccination spots in metro stations, providing vaccination teams to university students, and starting vaccinating school students who aged between 15 and 18 age-old.

The statements of the Minister came during the weekly meeting of the cabinet to evaluate the situation of COVID-19 in Egypt.

It is worthy to mention that Egypt’s Health Ministry reported 856 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total up to 352,123, on Tuesday.

The total number of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 20,052 nationwide after the Ministry announced 61 deaths.

About 719 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals, raising the total number of fully recovered cases to 293,374.
