Egypt and Qatar have welcomed Hamas’ announcement of its approval to release American hostage Edan Alexander, who has been held by the Palestinian movement.
The two countries described the decision as a goodwill gesture and a positive step toward resuming negotiations for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of all detainees and prisoners, and the secure, unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to address the dire humanitarian situation in the enclave.
In a joint statement, Egypt and Qatar emphasized the urgent need to end the war in Gaza to prevent further humanitarian fallout and stressed the importance of genuine commitment and goodwill from all parties to achieve a comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace in the region.
Both countries reaffirmed their continued coordination and consistent mediation efforts in Gaza, in collaboration with the United States, aiming to alleviate civilian suffering and create conditions conducive to a lasting de-escalation and a final end to the conflict and the humanitarian catastrophe it has caused.
