Egypt and Korea Sign Agreement to Enhance Technical Education

Egypt has taken another significant step toward advancing its technical education sector, signing an $8 million grant agreement with Korea to boost educational capabilities and strengthen industry links at Beni-Suef Technological University (BTU). This collaboration marks the continuation of a long-standing partnership between the two nations to enhance technical and vocational education in Egypt.

The agreement was formalized in Cairo, witnessed by Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and KOICA President Mr. Won Sam Chang. Egyptian Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, and the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador to Egypt, Mr. Kim Yong-Hyon, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective governments.

The six-year initiative, running from 2023 to 2028, aims to align the university's educational programs with the evolving needs of Egypt’s labor market. Through the development of industry-specific curricula in fields such as ICT, Mechatronics, and Autotronics, as well as the establishment of a new department focused on railway technologies, the project seeks to produce highly skilled technologists and advanced technicians ready to meet the demands of a growing economy.

This project builds on the success of the earlier KOICA initiative, “Establishment of Egyptian-Korean Technological College in Beni-Suef,” completed in 2022. Prime Minister Madbouly praised this new phase as a vital progression in linking educational institutions with industry to prepare a workforce capable of driving Egypt’s industrial and technological ambitions.

During a meeting with the KOICA President, Prime Minister Madbouly highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership, emphasizing how the continued support from Korea underscores the shared commitment to advancing Egypt's educational infrastructure and fostering innovation.

The collaboration aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 strategy, which prioritizes modernizing the educational system and creating a workforce equipped to contribute to the country’s industrial growth. By focusing on specialized fields such as railway technologies, the project reflects Egypt’s drive to modernize its transport infrastructure and increase its competitiveness in global markets.
