The Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority (EFSA) considers issuing a compulsory insurance policy against the risk of porce.

The Authority is currently studying the proposal of a compulsory insurance policy against porce, in preparation for submission to the Council of Ministers, before being sent to the parliament next October for discussion and approval.

According to the proposal, the husband would pay a financial amount, to be determined by the competent authorities according to each case, in specific installments before the completion of the marriage.

Analysts said the proposal aims to support porced women, their children and curb the spread of porce cases, which has become widespread in the country recently.

Meantime, Social media followers are split over the new porce proposal. Some say the project is in the best interests of porced women, while others consider it a new burden for young people marriage.

It is noteworthy that the number of marriage contracts reached 887,315 in 2018, compared to 912,606 contracts in 2017, a decrease of 2.8%, while the number of porce certificates reached 211,554 in 2018, compared to 198,269 certificates in 2017, an increase of 6.7%.

According to the latest data, 24 percent of married couples in Egypt got porced in the year 2018, compared to 22 percent in the preceding year.

As of January 2019, the number of Egyptian households reached about 24.3 million households. 44.3 percent of them live in urban areas, while 55.7 percent live in rural areas.
