Educ., Culture Min. Launch “Translation Contest for University Students”

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research: The competition aims to develop the skills and capabilities of young people to produce a valuable culture.

 

The Minister of Culture: Translation is one of the most important ways of transferring science and knowledge after knowing their value; the competition aims to give young people distinguished experiences.

 

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, launched the “Translation competition for the university students”

 

The competitors should be students of languages departments of Egyptian government universities. The competition comes under the slogan of ”  Tarjim, Ibdei- Translate and create” , via the website www.targem-eg.com

Dr. Abdul Ghaffar affirmed that the competition comes within the framework of the great concern of the state towards youth, in order to support them and develop their experiences and skills, in addition to urging university students to participate and integrate, in a positive way, in university cultural activities and in society in general.

 

The Minister of Higher Education pointed out that the competition aims to shed light on the distinguished young creators who are studying translation in the Egyptian universities to be endowed with  the knowledge and cultural richness of senior thinkers and writers in various languages.

 

On the other hand, the competition encourages young people to be acquainted with the valuable branches of culture and knowledge to translate various contexts from different languages to add them to the Egyptian and Arabic culture.

 

Furthermore, Dr. Abdul Ghaffar added that the competition also aims to form translation teamwork - with a maximum of five students under the supervision of the translation professors from various language departments of universities - to transfer intergenerational experiences, to encourage teamwork spirit, to invest the free time of youth in a beneficial activity especially during the summer.

 

He also stressed that the competition is an excellent opportunity for university students, with distinguished interests in languages and translation, to deal closely with the university community and to participate in it in a creative way.

 

On her part, Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem indicated that the cooperation between the two ministries comes as one of the forms of the state institutions' solidarity to achieve the public good, noting that the objectives of the competition are to give young people distinct experiences in the field of translation and to encourage team work spirit to integrate and communicate with the other.

 

The Minister of Culture added that investing the energies of youth is an important way to build and develop societies, explaining that translation represents the bridge of communication between civilizations and peoples.

 

She added, “Translation is one of the most important methods of transferring science and knowledge and exchanging experiences, especially after the contemporary knowledge revolution in various fields.”

 

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Higher Education And Scientific Research allocated a prize for the winning students, which is a two-week training abroad in one of the specialized agencies in translation - under the auspices of both :- Banque Misr and Al- Ahly Bank.

 

The Ministry of Culture has allocated an award for the winning works represented in: publishing them within the publications of the National Center For translation, in addition to dedicating them a certificate of appreciation.
