Summer is ending and the temperature is shifting. Through this period, people often get sick and suffer from influenza.

Here is Dr. Baher El Saeed, a well-known pharmacist on Facebook, talking about the influenza vaccine and why it is important to take it during his weekly interview with InBox TV program aired on Sada El Balad 2 channel.

Saeed said the influenza vaccine is a vaccine that protects against infection by influenza viruses. As the influenza virus rapidly changes, the vaccine is extracted from dead and weak viruses spreading every year. When it is given to the body, the vaccine activates the antibodies to fight any flu.

Saeed warned of disregarding influenza as its complications which could reach myocarditis or viral pneumonia or meningitis.

"The vaccine isn't for treatment from influenza, it is only just for protection, as it boosts the body's immunity," the pharmacist noted.

The most needed people to the vaccine are the pregnant, elderly, school students, diabetics, cancer, and AIDS patients.

The best time to take the vaccine is from the beginning of October till December 31. It will be effective after two weeks of taking it not immediately.

It is also recommended to take the vaccine after the recovery from the flu.

Regarding children from 6 months till 8 years old and in case of the first time, Dr. Saeed advised their parents to repeat giving the vaccine for the children after one month of taking it.
