Donia Samir Ghanem Shares Her Story with “Dawwie” Initiative

Egyptian singer-actress, Donia Samir Ghanem shared with “Dawwie” initiative her story as a model for every Egyptian girl.

The 34-year-old addressed a number of challenges she faced in her life, including her debut into the entertainment industry, and combining between singing and acting.

Donia encouraged others to share their stories: "Share your inspirational stories on hashtag #Dawwie #Your_story_Complete_theirs,"

Dawwie is a national initiative for girls’ empowerment and held under the auspices of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood.

Egypt's Secretary-General of National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM), Dr. Azza al-Ashmawy spoke enthusiastically about the initiative, saying: “Its goal is to help young girls learn about their rights by encouraging them to share their stories, challenges, and successes, to exchange experiences and challenging obstacles, to be stronger and have better opportunities.”

“Dawwie” initiative

The word "Dawwie" means in Arabic "a voice that is loud enough to create an impact".

The Initiative has launched a campaign to empower girls in the different governorates of Egypt.

It was launched under the patronage of the National Council for Childhood and motherhood in partnership with the National Council for Women, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Ministry Youth and Sports, Ministry of Health and Population, Ministry of Social Solidarity, Ministry of Culture, and the technical support of UNICEF.

The initiative partners including UNFPA, NGOs as Plan International, Save the Children, ACDA.

There are open platforms for those who wish to share their story to share their stories online to inspire others to make a change.

‘Girls empowerment’

There are 600 million adolescent girls in the world, most of them living in the developing world, according to UNICEF.

600 million adolescent girls have the potential to become entrepreneurs, scientists, visionary change-makers, or  leaders of their countries. But so many of these girls face daily, arduous barriers that prevent them from reaching their potential.
