The war between Hezbollah and Israel is putting pressure on the Lebanese economy, with tourism completely halted throughout Lebanon and foreign currency imports declining against the lira.
However, the dollar price in Lebanon stabilized Sunday, in banks, as the war between Hezbollah and Israel continues.
The dollar price against the Lebanese lira stabilized, Sunday, to record 15,000 liras per dollar, which has been the fixed price for months in Banque du Liban.
Also, the dollar stabilized against the lira in the parallel market, despite the war events in the proximity of events. The dollar recorded 89,500 liras to buy and 89,700 liras to sell.
Lebanon has been pricing in dollars in a phenomenon called “dollarization” since the economic crisis that occurred in 2019 and the outbreak of protests in the country, which led to the local lira being delinked from the dollar in the parallel market, and then in local banks, and thus the exchange rate of the lira against the dollar deteriorated.
