Dog Gives Birth Rare to 'Lime Green’ Puppy

A dog has given birth to a puppy that was named after the hulk for being born with a bright, garish shade of green fur.

The unusual phenomenon occurred in North Carolina, US on Friday, when a white German Shepherd named Gypsy gave birth to a litter of eight puppies.

The dog was in labor for three hours, everything was going as planned until the fourth puppy made his arrival.

"The puppy's green hue is likely to have been caused by meconium, a puppy's first faeces which may be passed ahead of the birth, or placental pigments," Daniella Dos Santos, president of the British Veterinary Association, told the independent.

"In any case, this should fade over time."

“Hulk”

Shana Stamey, the dogs' owner, revealed in press remarks that she and her family decided to name the infant “Hulk”, after the green Marvel comic book superhero.

However, the puppy has also been dubbed as Pikachu, after the beloved yellow Pokémon, as its fur has now turned a more yellowish shade.

It is worth mentioning that there are known cases of puppies being born with that color. In 2014, two dogs in Spain were born green, and in 2014 a chocolate Labrador in Lancashire, UK, gave birth to a green pup.

On the other hand, a case of a golden retriever mother, Rio, gave birth to a litter of nine puppies, in which a green-colored puppy named Forest was also born in that color back in 2017.

Earlier that year, a green puppy named “Fifi,” was born to a Chocolate Labrador retriever.
