Novak Djokovic etched another landmark achievement into tennis history after securing his place in the men’s singles final of the Australian Open.
The Serbian star defeated Italy’s Jannik Sinner in a gripping five-set semifinal, winning 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to keep his title defense alive and move one step closer to another Grand Slam crown.
Djokovic will face Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the final after the young Spaniard prevailed in a marathon encounter against Germany’s Alexander Zverev, claiming a dramatic 6-4, 7-6, 6-7, 6-7, 7-5 victory in the other semifinal.
With his latest triumph, Djokovic has now reached the men’s singles final in 38 Grand Slam tournaments, the highest number achieved by any player in the Open Era.
He also became the oldest player to reach the Australian Open men’s singles final in the Open Era, at 38 years and 241 days, surpassing the previous record set by Ken Rosewall in 1972.
The world number one is chasing his 11th Australian Open title, a feat that would further extend his dominance at Melbourne Park and take his total Grand Slam tally to a record 25 titles.
The men’s singles final of the Australian Open is scheduled to be played on Sunday morning, with Djokovic aiming to add yet another historic chapter to his legendary career.
