Novak Djokovic marked another historic milestone at the Australian Open on Monday night, equaling two all-time tennis records and recording his 100th career victory at Melbourne Park as he opened his campaign with a dominant straight-sets win.

The 38-year-old Serbian defeated Spain’s Pedro Martinez 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round, signaling his intent to challenge once again for Grand Slam glory and pursue a record-extending 25th major title.

By competing in his 21st Australian Open and his 81st Grand Slam tournament overall, Djokovic matched long-standing records, while his latest victory made him the first man in tennis history to win 100 or more matches on three different Grand Slam surfaces.

He now holds 100 wins at the Australian Open, alongside 102 at Wimbledon and 101 at Roland Garros.

“I mean, what can I say? Centurion is pretty nice,” Djokovic said after the match. “It’s a nice feeling.”

Already a 10-time Australian Open champion, Djokovic now owns a 100–10 win-loss record at the tournament.

His performance against Martinez showcased vintage form, highlighted by exceptional serving statistics, including 14 aces and no break points faced.

Djokovic also equaled Roger Federer’s record of 21 Australian Open appearances and matched the overall Grand Slam participation mark previously shared by Federer and Feliciano López.

“History making is a great motivation,” Djokovic said.

Despite skipping warmup tournaments ahead of the event, Djokovic said he feels physically ready after focusing on recovery and preparation.

He reached the semifinals of all four Grand Slam tournaments in 2025 but was unable to overcome the dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who have shared the sport’s biggest titles in recent seasons.

Djokovic acknowledged that Alcaraz and two-time defending champion Sinner are currently playing at a very high level but remains confident in his own ability.

“If I put everything together at the right time, I’m still capable of beating anyone,” he said.

With a commanding opening performance and history already made, Djokovic has once again underlined that he remains a major force at the Australian Open.
