On Monday, Serbian icon Novak Djokovic and King of Clay courts, and Roland Garros Rafael Nadal faced each other at the Olympic Games, on Roland Garros court in the 60th meeting. But, this one was special and it could be the final clay dance in a major tournament between both icons.
The Serbian claimed a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
It was Djokovic’s 31st win in a rivalry that began on the same Roland-Garros clay courts in 2006.
After the game, Djokovic said: “I’m very relieved,” adding: “Everything was going my way, I was 6-1, 4-0 up but I played a sloppy service game and gave him chances.”
He continued: “I never thought back in 2006 that we’d still be playing each other almost 20 years later.”
Nadal's singular run in the Olympics is now come to an end, but he is still competing in the double's competitions alongside Carlos Alcaraz.
