On Thursday, the President of Djibouti Ismael Omar Guelleh praised the recent steps by Egypt toward enhancing ties and establishing a partnership between the two African countries.

The Egyptian former ambassador to Djibouti Abdel Elkadir Galal received Djibouti’s "Order of Independence", during a ceremony recently held at the Presidential palace of Djibouti.

Guelleh took the occasion to confer words of praise upon Egypt's administration and also expressed his optimism in this regard over the recent summit in Djibouti and the leadership of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

"We cite the latest visit of the Egyptian President as a significant step towards establishing a fruitful partnership between the two African nations," Djibouti's President said.

Djibouti's President made this remark during the recent ceremony, which was held to honor Galal in his role in enhancing and straightening the bilateral relations between Egypt and Djibouti.

It's worth mentioning that Al-Sisi's recent visit is the first by an Egyptian President to Djibouti since its independence in 1977.

This historical visit highlights the Egyptian's growing interest in the east of the African horn following on from the President's visit in May and the appointment of a new Egyptian Representative to Djibouti.
