“Even Stevens” and “Kim Possible” star Christy Carlson Romano is opening up about a positive test result she received after she screened herself for cancer.

The former Disney Channel star revealed the results in an emotional video to remind people to get tested for cancer.

Romano revealed in the Instagram video that she and her husband, Brendan Rooney, had both undergone cancer screenings as her family has a history of the disease. Both of Romano’s parents and maternal grandmother were diagnosed with different types of cancer, her mother being the only one to “beat it.”

“My mom beat it. My dad eventually didn’t. My grandmother, on my mom’s side, had lung cancer and died from that, she said.

In the video, the Even Stevens alum explained that her husband’s results came back “completely negative” while hers did not. The actress will next get a PET scan, a nuclear imaging test that helps detect diseases like cancer at a cellular level.

Romano also revealed potential insurance issues, saying she is “fighting with companies” to get the scan “covered.”

The video was posted a week after the death of “Dawson’s Creek” star James Van Der Beek, who died Feb. 11 of colorectal cancer.

“I live in Austin, and I was able to meet James Van Der Beek a bunch. His family’s amazing. He’s a pillar of our community in Texas,” Romano noted. “They always were raising money for the most amazing charities, and he’s not with us anymore. Cancer is everywhere. Which is why I got this test.”

She added that she was in “disbelief” about the results and aimed to “not think about it much,” while focusing on her creative projects, which include a recently filmed movie and her upcoming memoir.

“It’s time to have a strong sense of faith and know that it’s in God’s hands — most of it,” Romano said. “I’m sure people think I’m overreacting, but I’m not, because cancer is pretty serious, and I have two little girls.”

She promised viewers she would “keep fighting for answers” and thanked her family for their support.

“Right now the news is that something is going on. I’m nervous and a bit scared (heck who wouldn’t be!),” Romano stated in her caption, before adding that she was initially hesitant to post the video, but wanted to encourage others to get screened.

“Let’s keep the good vibes going and I will keep you all posted as I get more information,” she concluded.
