Denmark Narrowly Defeat Egypt, after Courageous Effort by Pharaohs

2021 Handball World Cup hosts, Egypt, have been eliminated from the tournament after losing to Denmark in the quarter-finals, showcasing a courageous effort despite defeat.

The Pharaohs had the upper hand at the start of the game, taking an early three-point lead. Egypt goalkeeper, Mohamed El-Tayar, stole the show after remarkably making four saves.

However, the 2019 world champions were able to bounce back and end the first-half ahead 16-13.

Egypt came back into the game and equalized quickly. From then the game was very tight with goals coming back and fourth.

The second half was full of courage and heart from both sides as the rollercoastered to 28-28 draw, sending the game to overtime.

Over the final ten minutes, Egypt had a one-point lead but a similar incident occurred at the end of the game and Denmark were able to equalize. Meaning that a penalty shootout would decide the game.

After a great performance, the Pharaohs lost 4-3 on penalties. Ahmed El-Ahmar and Ali Zein missed the penalties, while Henrik Jensen was the only player to miss a penalty for Denmark.

Denmark took an early two-goal lead and as the game seemed to be over, the nordics gave away a penalty two seconds before the final whistle.

Nimes player, Mohamed Sanad, stepped-up to take the crucial shot and managed to score the equalizer. The game was therefore went two a second overtime.
