Thousands of Guatemalans continued their protests Monday calling on President Alejandro Giammattei to step down.
Earlier, angry protesters in the country set fire to the Parliament during a protest demanding the resignation of the president.
Flames rose from the seat of Parliament in Guatemala City, the capital. A Red Cross spokesman told reporters that the organization had provided treatment to several people for inhaling smoke.
The police arrested more than twenty people, and about fifty injured people were taken to hospital, one of them in serious condition.
A separate peaceful demonstration took place in front of the old government palace in the historic center of the capital, close to the Congress, to also demand Giammattei's resignation.
