Demichelis Appointed RB Leipzig Head Coach Until 2028

RB Leipzig have officially appointed Argentine coach Martín Demichelis as the club’s new head coach on a contract running until June 2028.

The 45-year-old takes over after leaving Spanish side Mallorca, becoming the latest addition to Leipzig’s ambitious long-term project.

Demichelis began his coaching career as an assistant at Málaga before spending time working with Bayern Munich’s youth teams. 

He then returned to Argentina in the 2022/23 season to take charge of River Plate, the club where he made his name as a player, in his first senior managerial role.

His spell with River Plate proved highly successful, as he guided the Buenos Aires giants to the Argentine league title and added two domestic cups during his first season in charge.

Speaking after the announcement, Demichelis made it clear that Leipzig’s sporting project and long-term ambition were central to his decision to accept the role. 

He praised the club’s vision, the quality of its young talent, and its determination to continue competing at the highest level.

The Argentine coach also stressed that he wants to build on the work already done at Leipzig by creating a team that plays brave, energetic, and entertaining football while maintaining a strong sense of responsibility on the pitch and building a close connection with the club’s supporters.

Demichelis is also set to lead Leipzig into next season’s UEFA Champions League campaign, a challenge he described as a major motivation. 

He believes the club belongs on Europe’s biggest stage and is eager to test himself and his squad against the continent’s top sides.
