International Human Solidarity Day is observed every year on December 20th to encourage discussion on ways to promote solidarity for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty eradication.

The day serves as a reminder for governments to honor their commitments to international agreements and to raise public awareness of the importance of humanity solidarity. This year's theme is 'Advocate for Change', which emphasizes the proactive approach of drawing attention to international concerns and supporting laws that promote social justice.

Solidarity is considered one of the fundamental values of international relations in the 21st century, according to the Millennium Declaration. It states that those who suffer or benefit the least deserve help from those who benefit the most. Therefore, strengthening international solidarity is crucial in the context of globalization and growing inequality.

The UN General Assembly proclaimed this day as International Human Solidarity Day, convinced that promoting the culture of solidarity and the spirit of sharing is essential for combating poverty. The concept of solidarity has defined the work of the United Nations since its inception. The creation of the UN brought together people and nations from around the world to promote peace, human rights, and social and economic development.

The organization was founded on the principle of unity and harmony among its members, expressed in the concept of collective security that relies on the solidarity of its members to unite "to maintain international peace and security."

The establishment of the World Solidarity Fund to eradicate poverty and the proclamation of International Human Solidarity Day are initiatives that promote the concept of solidarity as crucial in the fight against poverty and the involvement of all relevant stakeholders, according to UN.
