The death toll from the floods in Brazil has risen to 79, according to Al-Arabiya channel.
Earlier, the authorities in Brazil announced that the death toll from landslides and floods caused by torrential rains had risen to 31, including 29 people in the state of "Pernambuco" and two in the state of "Alagoas".
On Sunday, the US "ABC News" network quoted civil defense officials as saying that more than a thousand people were forced to leave their homes due to the floods in the state of "Pernambuco".
In turn, the Executive Secretary of the Civil Defense Agency in Pernambuco, Leonardo Rodriguez, said that about 32,000 families live in areas at risk of landslides or floods in the state.
Schools have been opened in Recife to receive the homeless people as a result of floods and landslides, while in the state of Alagoas, the government said 33 municipalities have declared a state of emergency due to the heavy rains during the past days.
