Brazil’s government said on Tuesday that at least 106 people died and 10 others are missing by torrential rains in northeastern the country.

During an interview with local media, Paulo Câmara, the Governor of Pernambuco said that the government’s priority is to find the missing people in the midst of mudslides and massive flooding.

The National Civil Defense posted on Twitter that it issued a warning of an “extremely high” possibility for more flooding in Pernambuco, as well as Recife.

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro visited the state yesterday, Tuesday, and inspected the areas affected by the floods, and promised to send aid to the affected families.

It is the fourth major flood to hit the country in five months, highlighting poor planning in low-income neighborhoods, in most parts of the country, where shantytowns are built on collapsing hillsides.

Late December and early January, dozens were killed and thousands displaced when torrential rains fell in Bahia state, in northeastern Brazil.

Later in January, at least 18 people died in the São Paulo floods in southeastern the county while torrential rains in Rio de Janeiro left more than 230 dead in the following month.
