Deadly Protests Erupt after Ethiopian Singer Killed

Media reports said on Tuesday that eight people have died in Ethiopia in protests that erupted because of the killing of musician Hachalu Hundessa.

The Ethiopian police are investigating his death, BBC reported.

After his death, thousands of his fans headed to the hospital in the city where the body of the singer was taken on Monday night.

Footage posted on social media appeared to show large crowds surrounding a car said to carry Haacaaluu’s body, slowly walking to his home town of Ambo, about 100 km west of Addis Ababa.

In Addis Ababa, police used tear gas to disperse the crowd outside the hospital and gunshots have been heard in the city where people set fire to tyres.
