Dar al-Ifta announced that Monday, May 18, 2026, will mark the first day of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah after the confirmed sighting of the crescent moon.
The announcement followed the official moon-sighting process conducted by the religious and scientific committees of Dar al-Ifta across Egypt after sunset on Sunday evening.
The Egyptian authority stated that the decision was made in accordance with the verified visual sighting of the crescent moon as well as the ruling issued by the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia.
Based on the announcement, the Day of Arafat will fall on Tuesday, May 26, while Eid al-Adha will begin on Wednesday, May 27.
Dar al-Ifta extended congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Egyptian people, Arab and Islamic leaders, and Muslims around the world on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
The institution also expressed hopes for peace, prosperity, stability, and blessings for Egypt and the wider Islamic world during the holiday season.
Eid al-Adha is one of the most important religious occasions in the Islamic calendar and coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
