Czechia head coach Miroslav Koubek has stepped down following the national team's elimination from the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Czech Football Association confirmed on Monday that the 74-year-old submitted his resignation after the team finished bottom of Group A with just one point from matches against South Korea, South Africa, and Mexico.
Koubek had only taken charge ahead of Czechia's World Cup qualifying play-offs but successfully guided the team back to the tournament for the first time in 20 years.
Under his leadership, Czechia secured dramatic penalty shootout victories over the Republic of Ireland and Denmark to book their place at the global finals.
Football Association of the Czech Republic president David Trunda confirmed that Koubek offered to step down following the team's World Cup campaign.
"Coach Miroslav Koubek offered me his resignation during a personal meeting today, and after an open and honest discussion, I decided to accept his decision," Trunda said.
Koubek's departure marks the end of a short but memorable spell in charge, having overseen Czechia's return to the FIFA World Cup after a two-decade absence.
