The Curaçao national team achieved a historic milestone by qualifying for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in its history, becoming the smallest country by population ever to reach the tournament.
Curaçao qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history after drawing with hosts Jamaica in the sixth and final round of Group A in the CONCACAF qualifiers.
The goalless draw against Jamaica was enough for Curaçao, the island located off the coast of Venezuela, to finish the qualifiers unbeaten at the top of Group B in the CONCACAF qualifiers, securing a direct ticket to the World Cup.
Curaçao succeeded in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, despite the absence of their coach Dick Advocaat, who missed the final match due to traveling to the Netherlands for family reasons.
According to FIFA’s official website, under the leadership of the veteran coach Advocaat, Curaçao delivered their best-ever performance in World Cup qualifying.
The team remained undefeated in ten matches.
In the second round, Curaçao produced strong attacking displays, achieving big victories over Barbados, Aruba, Saint Lucia, and Haiti, scoring 15 goals and becoming one of the most efficient teams in the region.
In the third round, Curaçao faced a tougher challenge after being drawn with three of the Caribbean’s strongest teams: Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Bermuda.
Even so, the team continued its impressive form.
Their 2–0 win over Jamaica in the first leg was one of their standout moments, along with a 7–0 victory in Bermuda, firmly proving they deserved their World Cup spot.
