Culture Min. Launches Egypt Artisans Initiative

Minister of Culture Dr. Enas Abdel-Dayem announced the details of the "Egypt Artisans Initiative" for technical training. The initiative will bring Egyptian traditional crafts back to the spotlight and create a new generation of innovators in this field.

The initiative is being implemented by the Cultural Development Fund, headed by Dr. Fathi Abdel Wahab, at Al-Fustat Center for traditional crafts.

Abdel-Dayem said that the launch of the initiative aims to preserve the identity and its unique features to achieve the axes of sustainable development.

She pointed out that traditional and heritage crafts are one of the elements of cultural heritage and Egyptian society has various types of handicrafts inherited by different generations.

The minister mentioned that beauty, accuracy and proficiency are also signs of local creativity, adding that the initiative aims to create new skilled generations and build small projects for young people whose production deserves to be on international trade horizons to promote Egypt's tourism abroad, as well as spreading the values of beauty among Egyptians.

It is noteworthy that the initiative aims at holding a training in traditional and heritage crafts like: copper works - shellfish - shell - cavity - ceramic - traditional ornaments.

It would also address the sons of Egypt from 18 to 40 years old and will grant trainees an approved certificate after passing the training period up to 8 months. The program will be in two stages: the first for beginners and the second one for enhancing the efficiency of the craft by giving 52 hours of study per month, including 16 hours of theoretical study and 36 hours of practical study. Each session will include 10 to 15 trainees.
