Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla expressed solidarity with Palestine and condemned what he described as "genocide and ethnic cleansing" being perpetrated by Israel against Palestinians.
In his address to the UN General Assembly, according to the UN News Center, Parrilla stated that an effective global response to serious challenges is impossible because the current world order "reflects an era long past, when most developing countries did not even exist as independent states."
He noted that while "a handful of countries and individuals possess more wealth than the combined wealth of most other countries," the United Nations remains the most representative body of the international community and must be protected and strengthened. He called for a new international system that guarantees "the right to development, equality of sovereignty, and meaningful participation and representation for developing countries in global political decision-making."
He referred to the Secretary-General's initiatives for reforming the United Nations, emphasizing the need to strengthen the UN as an international organization and enhance its capacity to address pressing challenges. He urged the international community to reject the principle of "peace through force," which "amounts to imposing American imperialism on everyone" and undermines the values upon which the United Nations was founded.
