Former Al Nassr player Shaya Al-Sharahili has revealed a surprising detail about Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, stating that the player tried fasting during Ramadan alongside his teammates last year.

Speaking on the program “Studio Al-Jamaheer" via the Thmanyah app, Al-Sharahili said, “Cristiano Ronaldo fasted for two days to experience what fasting feels like for Muslims.”

Al-Sharahili explained that foreign players in the Saudi Pro League are often the most affected during Ramadan, mainly due to the rescheduling of matches to 10:00 PM, which disrupts their usual sleep routines.

Many players are accustomed to playing at 8:00 PM, he noted, adding, “After about seven days, the body adapts to the change, and things gradually return to normal.”

In earlier remarks, former Al Nassr goalkeeper Waleed Abdullah also highlighted Ronaldo’s interest in Islamic culture and practices during his time with the club.

Waleed Abdullah said in televised comments, “I spoke with Ronaldo about converting to Islam, and he showed interest. He once asked the coach to pause training when he heard the call to prayer.” He added, “Ronaldo once performed a Sagda (prostration) on the pitch after scoring and always encouraged players to pray.”

These statements shed light on a human and respectful side of the Portuguese legend, who appeared eager to understand the religious and cultural experiences of his Muslim teammates.

Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in January 2023 after terminating his contract with Manchester United, marking his first professional experience outside Europe and a historic move for Saudi football.
