The United Kingdom will send 1,000 more ventilators to help coronavirus-hit India, the UK government announced on Sunday.

As India continues to report soaring infections and record deaths, the UK's chief medical and scientific officers have been offering help. The latest assistance is on top of a package of support announced last week.

"The UK will always be there for India in its time of need," British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said.

"I am deeply moved by the surge of support the British people have provided to the people of India and am pleased the UK government has been able to play our part in providing life-saving assistance," Johnson added.

India recorded its highest daily coronavirus death toll since the pandemic began - 3,689 - becoming the first country to register more than 400,000 new cases in a single day.

The Health Ministry announced Sunday the registration of 392, 488 new COVID-19 cases, during the last 24 hours. In addition, 3689 new deaths were announced, bringing the total fatalities to 215,542.

Therefore, the authorities decided to extend the lockdown in the capital, New Delhi, for a week to confront the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

Moreover, the US administration decided to ban most travel from the country as of next Tuesday, amid an increase in cases of Coronavirus.
