Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has expanded his off-field business ventures after acquiring a stake in Spanish club Extremadura Deportivo, as part of a new investment move involving the sports platform NXTPLAY.

According to Marca, the club has officially welcomed NXTPLAY into its ownership structure, marking a significant step in its ongoing restructuring project following a rapid rise through the Spanish football pyramid.

Courtois, who co-founded the investment platform, now becomes directly involved in the ownership of Extremadura, adding another club to his growing portfolio of football-related investments. The move was reportedly in development for nearly a year before being finalized.

The announcement comes during a historic period for Extremadura Deportivo, who have achieved four consecutive promotions and recently secured a return to Spain’s third division, reflecting a strong sporting and organizational revival.

Courtois is also linked with previous investment activity through NXTPLAY, including involvement in French club Le Mans, which recently earned promotion to Ligue 1. The platform’s strategy focuses on supporting ambitious clubs with sustainable sporting and financial models.

Speaking about the project, Courtois emphasized the importance of selecting well-structured clubs with strong identity and leadership.

“We invest in projects we believe are real, led by people with experience and the ability to build something meaningful,” he said. “Extremadura represents all of that. It is a historic club in Spanish football with a strong fanbase and a board that has consistently shown its commitment to building a serious project.”

The deal further highlights the growing trend of active footballers entering club ownership while still competing at the highest level.
