The weekly number of confirmed positive Coronavirus cases in The UK has jumped to 43% at the end of August, compared to the previous week, according to official figures released on Thursday.

About 9,864 new people have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the country from Aug. 27 to Sept.2.

This is considered the highest number of weekly positive cases since the tracking service was launched in May.

It is worth mentioning that, the UK announced on Tuesday that social gatherings of more than six people will be banned in England from Monday, September 14, amid a steep rise in coronavirus cases.

The government said that the law change will ban larger groups meeting anywhere socially indoors or outdoors, yet it will not apply to schools, workplaces or Covid-secure weddings, funerals and organised team sports.

Those found in breach of the measures could face a fine of £100, doubling on repeat offenses up to £3,200.
