The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Cabinet, Nader Saad, confirmed that the increase in the number of people infected by the novel coronavirus "COVID-19" occurred because citizens crowd on streets to buy stuff related to the month of Ramadan in the past two weeks.

"The government requested the citizens to deal with the month of Ramadan this year as an exceptional month due to the novel coronavirus, but they did not respond," Saad said during TV statements, according to Sky News Arabia.

He stressed that the citizens’ commitment to measures dedicated to combat the novel coronavirus decreased during the last period although they were following most of the health measures announced by the government and the World Health Organization (WHO) in the first three weeks from the start of the precautionary measures and were disciplined.

The spokesperson for the Egyptian Cabinet indicated that the increase in numbers poses a problem to the health system, as this causes an increase in the numbers of contacts and a greater number of laboratory tests, in reference to the PCR test.

In this regard, the Egyptian Ministry of Health announced that 85 of those infected with the novel coronavirus had left the quarantine hospitals, all are Egyptian citizens, bringing the total number of people recovering from the virus to 1815 cases to date.

The spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Health Khaled Megahed said that 387 new cases had been registered.

“Seventeen more deaths were confirmed; raising the total number to 469,”  Megahed, said in a statement.

Megahed said that all registered cases are subject to medical care in isolation and quarantine hospitals, according to WHO guidelines.

Earlier, the Health Minister Hala Zayed said that 61 percent of the positive cases are from males and 39 percent from females.

Zayed mentioned that 30% of deaths had died before checking in at the isolation hospitals.
